Lolo Pass, looking west - MT. On September 10, 1805, a hunting party met three Nez Perce Indians traveling east on the Nez Perce Trail (Lolo Trail). The Indians came back to camp with them to speak with the captains. They told of a "plain below the mountains" that was only "five sleep" (6 days) away. They also described easy and direct routes to the Great Falls, confirming Toby's earlier story.
